We saw-cut slabs to remove single panels, open basement floors for plumbing and drains, and add joints. We also polish sound indoor floors for shops, offices and basements.
Cutting and polishing are finishing trades that work on concrete already in place. Cutting means sawing straight, clean lines through a slab. We cut to remove one bad driveway panel without cracking its neighbor, to open a basement floor for a drain or a sump line, to add control joints that were left out, and to trim a slab back from a foundation or a tree.
Indoor cutting is common in Sioux Falls basements, where egress windows, bathroom rough-ins and drain tile repairs all mean opening concrete. Wet sawing keeps the dust down. The cut section is removed, the work below is done and inspected if needed, and the floor is poured back level with the old one. Before cutting any slab we ask about in-floor heat tubing, radon piping and buried lines.
Polishing grinds a floor with finer and finer diamond tools until it is smooth and has the shine you choose, from matte to glossy. It suits shops, showrooms, offices and basements with a sound slab. A polished floor has no coating to peel, which helps on slabs that carry some moisture. It will show cracks, patches and old saw cuts, and it is for indoor floors only, since a polished surface is too slick outside in winter.
Concrete cutting and polishing in Sioux Falls: common questions
Can you cut out one panel of my driveway?
Yes. We saw along the joints, lift out the bad panel and pour a new one on a rebuilt base. The new panel will be a lighter color than the old ones for a few years.
Is it too late to add control joints after the pour?
Joints should be cut within hours to a day of the pour. Cut later, they still help with future movement but will not undo cracks that have already formed.
Is a polished floor slippery?
Dry, a polished floor grips about like any hard floor. Wet, it is slick, like tile. That is why we polish indoor floors only and suggest mats at winter entrances.
